For every flea that lives on your pet, there will be about 30 times that many occupying other parts of your home.
Fleas are difficult to eradicate because in most cases, there are many generations of fleas, in several different life cycles. The life cycles are Adults, Nymphs, Eggs, and Pupae. Fleas only feed on a pet during their Adult stage. After feeding, the adult flea lays eggs on the animal, the eggs immediately fall off the animal and lay around for days or weeks before they hatch into a nymph. The nymphs feed on organic debris until they pupae, and eventually become adults. No insecticides are able to kill the eggs or the pupae. The new adults then search out an animal to feed on, and the cycle starts over. There can be hundreds of generations that make up an infestation, all in various stages of their life cycles. The key to getting control of a flea infestation is persistence. A single application of any product will not give you the results you are looking for, you must treat the area and the host animal repeatedly, per the products instructions, until the many generations are knocked down.
